Day 12...

I can't believe I've been in North Platte almost 2 weeks. It has gone by super-fast. It is so hot here... 102 today. I'm at the office now, getting a few things done and then we are heading out to the Lake today with my host family, my interns and their host family. It's worked out very well that our host families are friends as well as the alumni here- Stu and Rejean, who are just wonderful. We had a BBQ at their house Friday night which was a lot of fun. Last night my host family took Christy, Khan and I to Paxton (all the way in the mountain time zone!) to a "Big Game restaurant" called Ole's. It was quite the experience, as you'll note from the pictures. Khan and Christy were very brave and tried the Rocky Mountain Oysters! I had chicken....

8 Days until the Cast arrives! We are doing a little better on Host Families, but we are still about 25 beds short. Hopefully they'll pull through in the next week!

Although North Platte isn't as bad as I expected, I miss Colorado tons! More so my family and friends than the state, but I do miss those goregous mountains!

Day 9

Day 9 In North Platte...
My interns arrived Tuesday night- hooray! They are wonderful and I am so happy to have help. We are having some troubles finding enough host families for our students. We have 25 beds (spots for students to stay) and we need about 90! So, I've been doing a little bit of a "media-blitz" trying to get the word out. I was on the KELN "Fudge for Breakfast" radio show this morning and the KNOP-TV Midday Newsmakers program this afternoon. We also have some nice ads running in the newspaper and as we speak a reporter from the paper is interviewing my interns (Khan from Thailand and Christy from PA) about their host family experience. He will also interview my host family (The Shrecks) about all the students they have hosted in the past for the piece he is doing on host families. Hopefully all this coverage will get us some beds!!
Other than the host family problem things are otherwise going well. I am enjoying my host family and it is so nice to have our advance team here together!

I promise I'll get some North Platte pictures in here soon!

11 days until CAST arrival!

North Platte

Well, I've been in North Platte almost a week now and I haven't died of boredom yet! My work is going well and I am excited to really get down to business and prepare for our cast to arrive on August 7th.
I've been keeping busy trying to find host families, doing media interviews, trying to find donated meals and hotel rooms, selling tickets and spending time with my wonderful host family.
Of course, I miss all my Colorado friends and family. And my beautiful mountains. I don't know which way is West here without the Rockies to guide me! Please Please Please everyone keep in touch with me- emails, calls, letters, pictures so I don't go crazy with my longing for everything Colorado.
I am very excited to be working for Up with People. It is a great organization that I really believe in. If anyone in Denver would like to go see the Show on August 5th- let me know. I'll set you up with free tickets!
Here is a picture of my fellow "ERC's" (External Relations Coordinators). We were dressed up for our presentation to convince students to come do advance team work. I guess it worked- I have 2 student interns arriving from Denver tomorrow!
Take care everyone! I'll try to post again soon!
