another day, another post

So, after numerous requests by friends and strangers, I've decided to keep blogging. Now, I'm no longer traveling around the world so I can't promise my posts will be as exciting or provide endless entertainment as they did before (ha!). But, I love to write and some people seem to enjoy reading what I've got to say, so I guess I'll keep it up for now. So, I'm not going to bore you with the minute details of my day. Not that I don't think that you'd love to hear what time I woke up, what I had for breakfast, what I wore, ect. I will probably just fill these pages with my random thoughts about current events and life and funny quotes from my friends. My friends really are hilarious. God bless technology. Not a day goes by where I don't get a text, email, facebook or myspace comment, MSN message, etc. from one of my friends that makes me laugh out loud.
  • Just yesterday, my friend Ali who just started a new job sent me this text: "So there is a guy at work I haven't met yet that just came back from vacation. He's like a crazy Italian all hugging everyone. It's like an Olive Garden commercial" Ha!
  • I also got this email from my friend Kelly: The title "Want to Go?" Just click on the link for a sure laugh http://greenville.craigslist.org/stp/530731516.html

Oh job hunting. It's about to become my life. So the interview I had last week didn't work out. I got the standard "We've decided to go another direction" call today. Why don't they just say "you're not good enough"- at least be honest. They did tell me that they had fun meeting me and that I was a "fabulous burst of energy". Whatever that means. I head home to Denver on Sunday and then its no more vacation time. I'm going to work my ass off to get a job, start running again and stop drinking. Ha, well you know that last one isn't true. Not like I've been drinking here, its a very tame life in Texas. I'm currently in bed in my snowflake pj's, Sex and the City on the TV and my book and crocheting next to me. Yes, I am an 80 year old woman.

Okay, a serious topic. So my sister is 8 and in the 2nd grade at a private Christian school. Yesterday she was talking about a girl at school who was bullying her. I tried to give her some good advice (the standard, "she's just trying to get a reaction out of you so just ignore her or walk away" thing) and tell her not to worry about it too much. This is not the issue, everyone gets bullied at one time or another, I know I did and I turned out okay. But, what struck me is that my sister was talking about how this girl is "popular". Popular!! In the 2nd grade!? I thought this was a Jr. High issue. Shouldn't 8 year olds be worried about spelling homework and dolls? Not popularity contests. And the funny thing is my sister has the same thoughts about popularity as I do. She wonders why this girl is popular if she is so mean? Why do people like here? I always wondered that about the "popular" girls at my school. No one really liked them because they were stuck-up bitches, yet they were considered "popular". However, that is beside the point. How do you tell an 8 year old not to worry about popularity? That it really doesn't matter. Of course it doesn't matter to me, a 24 year-old "grown-up", but it does to her and probably will for another 10 years. It's really sad to me. What can be done about this? Any suggestions?

Okay, well thats all I've got for now. Maybe I'll have more interesting stories when I go visit my uppie friends on Monday. I am so excited to see my Irish girl Aofie!
